Collaborative Artist Statement
Anna Rochester and Barbara Libby-Steinmann
Our process/medium
Working in a somewhat mediative fashion, perhaps like an automatic drawing, we begin. The colors are chosen, and the fluid acrylics begin to be brushed on the paper. We’re trying to allow the flow of the process and the layers to emerge without criticism or overthinking it too much. Once we start, we don’t really speak about the painting. We are here and now in a collaborative moment. The painting of flowers emerges, and off we go! For our large paintings the materials used are fluid acrylics and a few touches of gouache applied to heavyweight watercolor paper, mounted on birch panels and a protective coating is applied. The art is ready with D-rings and wired for hanging. We are Anna Rochester and Barbara Libby Steinmann, visual artists, who wish to slow the chaotic world down for a few painting sessions to allow the brain to relax, and enjoy the ride of working together on large pieces of art.
Artists Anna and Barbara use visual arts as a vehicle to raise awareness, positive change and guide conversations. We create through moments of struggle, confusion, hope and love. We wish to share our passion for making art and connect this magic with the world as an accessible tool for as many people as possible to find balance and peace, to communicate and engage in discourse about social and world issues to affect positive experiences and change.
